The Horror and fun of Zombicide!

It’s not often that a board game takes on a cult like following, but that’s just what happened with Zombicide. This Kickstarter has become a franchise of epic proportions. While we were there in the early days of the game, it wasn’t until recently that we began to play it. We explain that journey on our YouTube channel in greater detail. Hard to believe that this game is now 9 years old and still going strong.

So, here we now find ourselves immersed in the world of Zombicide. I’m a firm believer in doing the research prior to jumping into a game when not fully understanding the nuances of it. Having read the rule book a few times, and having watched several Zombicide gameplay videos, we were nearly ready to play when we stumbled onto the “minifigure painting community”. How cool is this? While painting your mini-figs is not a pre-requisite to enjoying this game, it certainly adds to the overall experience. We had no experience in painting mini-figs, however, in an effort to get everything we could out of this game, we set forth on the journey. I’m glad that we did. There were lessons learned, and much fun was had!

So, that takes us to today. We started our first game only to find ourselves in a discussion over zombie movement, and turn based play. It turns out that there is room for interpretation in several aspects of the game. How do I feel about that? I’m not sure yet. What we then did was to go out into the forums and read up on what the playing community had to say on such matters. Interestingly, the conversation was equally as vigorous and resembled a debate more than a one line response. So cool! This is where good games become great games! When there is room for debate, there is room to customize your experience. As we speak, we are creating one or two house rules based on that experience. So far, we are surprisingly impressed with this game, and look forward to sharing it with friends. We’d love to hear from you if you play Zombicide, or have any tips or resources which enhance your overall gaming experience. If you’ve never played it, there are several new core packs which are available online. Well, that’s it for now. For now, I’ll leave you with a link to the second edition of this now classic game! A sincere thanks for checking in! RetroDude
