How did I miss this movie? I usually keep a keen eye out for all things Sci-Fi, Horror, or anything which might chill or thrill. I actually picked the Dean Koontz book up while on vacation for no other reason than that it caught my eye, and I needed something to read. Well, I made my way about 25% into the book, when we were searching for something to watch on Amazon Prime on a rainy Saturday night. I thought about waiting until I finished the book, not very long mind you, and the journey was on. We finished the movie about an hour or so ago, and I can’t say enough it. 2 thumbs up… Big UUUggge fan… You get the driff.
With films, the cast can make or break an attempt to bring a well written book to the screen. In this particular case, actor Anton Yelshin’s performance took a story with obvious potential to the next level. Let’s talk about the flow… perfect. The story develops at a pace which keeps you glued to the tale being told. So much of what we see on screen these days feels formulaic and all to familiar. This movie truly has a genuine quality about it.

There’s a complex story to be told here, and this is one film that could have missed badly. Adding Willem Dafoe was a master stroke, as he plays off of Yelshin’s character nicely. Addison Timlin plays Odd’s girlfriend. In short, she owns the scene, the screen, and likely the hearts of many a young man with her performance. While I did not finish the book, I never sensed the potential of this story to translate as well as it did on the screen. I will not offer any spoilers. The movie is a real treat, and a big part of the charm of this film is that you truly do not know where it’s going until the final 15 minutes or so.
Here’s the great thing.. If you haven’t seen it, you can do so at no cost if you are an Amazon Prime member. Regardless, if you do rent this one, it’s worth every penny. I’m not a big fan of watching movie trailers. I feel they tend to tell and show too much of the story. With all that said, if you’re so inclined, I won’t stop you.
I watched the trailer after I’d already watched the film. It does not do the film justice. Watch this movie. It’s a real treat, and a can’t miss for any fan of film and entertainment.
