What’s old is new

I was not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, I frowned on the idea of sitting on the couch for hours at a time, mashing buttons and making strange faces. See, that’s just it. As a non-gamer, my opinion came from a place of ignorance. I was dating a girl that wanted the Sega Genesis for her birthday. In my twenties, my income was nothing to brag about, but how could I say no? If memory serves, I paid about 300 dollars for the Genesis. That’s when I met Sonic the Hedgehog. We set up the Genesis, and she fired it up. SEG-AAAA! Who can forget that classic greeting? Occasionally I would glance over as she played the game.

I was immediately taken by the speed, color, and flow of the game. At some point, I said to her “Hey, let me try that!” That’s when everything changed. I went from nonbeliever, to rabid fan in under 60 seconds. Since the age of 12, I’ve been an avid comic book reader and still am to this day. Well, mostly the pre 90’s stuff, but more on that later. Monster movies? You bet. Classic Sci-Fi? Of course! The only thing that’s changed since that time is that I now get to share these pursuits with my son. This will be a place for us to brain dump our thoughts and experiences on these topics and more. This is strictly a labor of love and a way to connect with people that share the same passion we have for all things classic! I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
